Getting Some Answers with Hatidza Mulic

Hatidza Mulic recently joined the gallery. This is her first time showing with Amos Eno Gallery and we are thrilled to see her interpretation of the Unique to the Nature exhibition prompt. Sometimes abstractions can take a concrete form; just think of riots and looting during times of social crisis. Perhaps Mulic's entry to this group painting show returns our quest for work that is unique to the nature of paint with an answer of art that is unique to the nature of our times; it is for the viewer to decide. What cultural moment did you last learn about? What are the consequences?

The last cultural moment I learned about was a shocking one. The White House forbade Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to use, in their budget proposal, seven following words: "diversity," "fetus," "transgender," "vulnerable," "entitlement," "science-based" and "evidence-based." This particular exploit mimics a totalitarian government where population lives in fear, without democracy. In my lifetime, I have sought refuge from a politically toxic, genocidal environment and this experience brought me to the United States of America. To be able to draw parallels between our government and any totalitarian regime is extremely alarming. Last night (January 2, 2018) the 45th President of the United States threatened North Korea with a “bigger” nuclear “button” via tweet! Consequently, as a painter, I am depicting some of the observed social frustrations and adding personally injected sarcastic undertones.

Is a good painting a bachelor or a breeder?

A good painting can be either a bachelor or a breeder. A bachelor painting can be described as a brilliant moment, a stroke of genius resulting in a singular painting. A breeder painting gives birth to multiples of interesting and explorative paintings revolving around a singular idea.
