Event series: Gwen Shockey: The Hand Inventory Project

Amos Eno Gallery is pleased to present The Hand Inventory Project, an interactive installation and community event series by Gwen Shockey. An opening party will be held on Friday, November 6 from 6 - 9 pm at the gallery in suite 120 at The Loom, 1087 Flushing Avenue in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

The Hand Inventory Project is a month of art, poetry, storytelling, workshops and more to celebrate and document the complexity and importance of the human hands. Throughout the month of November Amos Eno Gallery will host the interactive exhibition in which viewers are encouraged to have their hands photographed and to write about their hands on the gallery walls. Events and workshops will take place throughout the month including a night of poetry reading by Brooklyn based poets and a storytelling night hosted by Queer Memoirs. Event Schedule:

Nov. 6, 6-9pm: Opening party, Vegan desserts made by Max Ray Esposito, Musical performance by Crown Heights-based band, Betsey's Libido and musician Alex Kramer.

Nov. 13, 6-8pm: The Humble Handjob: This workshop led by sex educator and sex shop employee Haylin Belay will focus on handjobs, the manual stimulation of the penis. This humble sex act is often considered fairly boring, but you’d be surprised by what a hand (or two) can do! Designed for people of all genders and orientations who are interested in spicing up their sexual repertoire, exploring novel methods of masturbation, or simply learning about this much-maligned type of stimulation, the workshop will feature practical demonstrations and a pop-up shop with sex toys from SHAG Brooklyn.

Nov. 14, 8pm: Hands, Queer Memoirs storytelling group.

Nov. 15, 12-5pm: Open finger painting for kids and grownups.

Nov. 19, 8pm: A Litany of Lovers: remembered only by their hands: An interactive performance piece of startling truth, minor fictions, and lots of orgasms. Created by Elizabeth Weitzen, sponsored by Shag Brooklyn.

Nov. 20, 8pm: Talk to the Hand: An evening of spoken words with Armando Jaramillo Garcia, Rob Crawford and Stu Watson.

Gwen Shockey is a fine artist based in Brooklyn, NY. She has been a member of Amos Eno Gallery for four years where she serves as the secretary of the Board and as the gallery's Nonprofit Events Coordinator. Her work has been exhibited nationally and featured in numerous New York City venues such as MoMA PS1 Studio Visit and A.I.R. Gallery. She graduated from Connecticut College in 2010 with a BA in studio art and is currently working towards her MFA degree at Pratt Institute.
