Aleksandra Scepanovic

Aleksandra Scepanovic's tumultuous journey toward sculpture began in socialist Yugoslavia in the 1980s. Shaping her voice and perspective were Aleksandra's diverse career paths, which led her through archaeological sites in Serbia, reporting on Balkan conflicts in the 1990s, and studying design in New York City at the onset of the 2000s. Despite the challenges posed by the Great Recession, she ventured into the cutthroat business of real estate before finding solace and self in clay.

Today, snippets from her past inspire Aleksandra's artistic spirit as she collaborates with a collective of sculptors in her studio in Woodstock, NY. Through her art, Aleksandra celebrates the bravery of continuation, the joy of new explorations, and the thrill of a quiet life in the tranquil Hudson Valley.

Aleksandra Scepanovic questions our innermost by engaging the boundary between form and expectation. Her builds are strong physical preambles to wonder and potentiality, arrested in change. Enrolling the form into enduring transformation, Ms. Scepanovic’s forms give license to the mind to absorb context and effect. Her pursuits compare rational forms with intuition and provoke illuminating journeys to mystery.

Aleksandra’s sculptural work underscores her experience of migratory displacement, her enduring quest for a true likeness of identity suspended in between war, peace, and culture.
